Top 20 Bathroom Trends for 2023 According to Interior Design Experts

Are you planning a bathroom renovation project in the near future? If so, you’ll want to know the latest trends in bathroom design.

We’ve researched and compiled a list of the top 20 bathroom trends for 2023 according to interior design experts. From the latest colors and materials to innovative storage solutions and cutting-edge technology, this article has everything you need to know to create the bathroom of your dreams.

The Future of Bathroom Design

Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces; they are becoming more like personal sanctuaries. In 2023, we can expect to see more spa-inspired aesthetics in bathroom design, with a focus on creating a serene and calming atmosphere. At the same time, technologies such as smart mirrors and smart toilets are becoming more prevalent, allowing for a more convenient and futuristic bathroom experience.

Imagine stepping into your bathroom and being greeted by soft, soothing lighting, the sound of a gentle waterfall, and the scent of aromatherapy oils. This is the kind of spa-inspired atmosphere that is becoming increasingly popular in bathroom design. With the use of natural materials like stone and wood, combined with soft lighting and calming colors, the bathroom is transformed into a peaceful sanctuary where you can relax and unwind.

The Role of Technology in Bathrooms

Smart technology is becoming an integral part of the modern bathroom, with features like water-saving systems, automated lighting, and integrated sound systems. Smart mirrors are gaining popularity, equipped with features like Bluetooth connectivity, voice commands, and even facial recognition. And smart toilets are becoming more advanced, with features like heated seats, self-cleaning, and automatic flushing. These technologies are not only convenient and streamlined, but they also save users time, effort, and money.

Imagine being able to adjust the lighting and sound in your bathroom with a simple voice command, or having your toilet automatically adjust the water level based on your usage. These are just a few examples of how smart technology is revolutionizing the bathroom experience.

Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Features

As awareness of sustainability and environmental impact grows, so does the demand for eco-friendly bathroom features. Water-saving toilets and faucets, low-flow showerheads, and graywater recycling systems are a few sustainable options gaining momentum. Additionally, repurposed and recycled materials, such as reclaimed wood or recycled glass, are being used in sustainable bathroom design to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.

Not only do these eco-friendly features help reduce our environmental impact, but they can also save us money on our water and energy bills. And with the growing popularity of sustainable design, we can expect to see even more innovative and eco-friendly bathroom features in the future.

The Impact of Changing Lifestyles on Bathroom Design

As our lifestyles evolve, so do our bathroom needs. With more people working from home or remote locations, we’re seeing a trend towards home gyms and spas, which incorporate exercise equipment, spacious showers, and spa amenities. For families with small children or elderly members, bathrooms are being designed with safety and accessibility in mind, featuring non-slip floors, grab bars, and step-free shower entries.

But it’s not just about functionality. With the increasing focus on wellness and self-care, we’re seeing a trend towards bathrooms that promote relaxation and rejuvenation. From luxurious soaking tubs to steam showers and sauna rooms, the modern bathroom is becoming a place to escape and unwind.

Overall, the future of bathroom design and installation is exciting and innovative, with a focus on creating spaces that are both functional and luxurious. Whether you’re looking to create a spa-like oasis or a high-tech bathroom of the future, there are endless possibilities for creating your dream bathroom.

Top 5 Bathroom Color Trends

When it comes to bathroom design, the color scheme can make all the difference. Whether you’re looking to create a bold statement or a serene oasis, choosing the right colors is key. Here are the top five bathroom color trends for 2023:

Bold and Vibrant Colors

If you’re looking to add some drama to your bathroom, bold and vibrant colors are the way to go. Rich jewel tones like emerald green and sapphire blue are gaining popularity, adding a touch of luxury and sophistication to bathroom spaces. These colors work particularly well when paired with metallic accents like gold or brass, creating a striking contrast that really pops.

But bold colors don’t have to be limited to jewel tones. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider experimenting with bright oranges, yellows, or pinks. These colors can add a playful and energetic vibe to your bathroom, perfect for starting your day off on the right foot.

Earthy Tones and Natural Hues

For those who prefer a more understated look, earthy tones and natural hues are a timeless choice. Browns, beiges, and greys have always been popular for bathroom design, but in 2023, we can expect a shift towards more natural hues like terracotta, clay, and forest green. These colors work particularly well in bathrooms with natural stone or wood accents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

If you want to add a touch of luxury to your natural color scheme, consider incorporating some marble or granite accents. These materials can add a sense of elegance and sophistication to any bathroom design.

Monochromatic and Minimalist Palettes

For a sleek and modern look, monochromatic palettes are in. Shades of black, white, and grey create a sophisticated and timeless appearance, perfect for those who prefer a minimalist aesthetic. Minimalist designs, with clean lines and simple shapes, also pair well with monochromatic palettes, creating a cohesive and harmonious look.

If you’re worried that a monochromatic color scheme will be too boring, consider incorporating some texture into your design. Matte or glossy finishes, as well as different materials like concrete or wood, can add depth and interest to your bathroom design.

Metallic Accents and Finishes

Metallics have been a popular choice for bathroom design for several years now, and they’re still going strong. In 2023, we can expect to see gold, brass, and copper finishes in particular gaining popularity. These finishes add a touch of glamour to bathroom spaces, especially when paired with bold or dark colors.

If you’re looking for a more subtle way to incorporate metallics into your bathroom design, consider using them as accents. A gold or brass faucet, for example, can add a touch of luxury to an otherwise understated bathroom.

The Return of Vintage Colors

Vintage design elements have been making a comeback in recent years, and we’re seeing this trend extend into bathroom design. Soft pastel colors like pink, green, and blue, reminiscent of the 1950s and ’60s, are making a revival. Paired with traditional design elements like clawfoot tubs and pedestal sinks, these vintage colors create a charming and nostalgic atmosphere.

If you’re worried about your bathroom looking too dated, consider incorporating vintage colors in a more subtle way. A pastel-colored shower curtain or bath mat, for example, can add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise modern bathroom design.

Innovative Bathroom Materials

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in a home, and it is essential to choose the right materials to create a functional and stylish space. There are many innovative materials available that can transform a bathroom into a luxurious and inviting oasis. Here are some of the latest trends in bathroom materials:

Engineered Stone and Porcelain

Engineered stone, such as quartz, and porcelain tiles are two of the most popular materials for bathroom surfaces. They are durable, easy to clean, and come in a wide variety of colors and styles. Porcelain tiles, in particular, are being used more and more in bathrooms due to their natural look and feel. They are perfect for creating a sleek and modern look, and they are also resistant to stains, scratches, and moisture.

Engineered stone is made from a combination of natural stone and resin, which makes it incredibly strong and resistant to damage. It is also non-porous, which means that it does not absorb water or bacteria. This makes it an ideal material for bathroom countertops, sinks, and shower walls.

Recycled and Reclaimed Materials

Recycling and upcycling are gaining traction in bathroom design, and many designers are using recycled and reclaimed materials to create unique and eco-friendly spaces. Recycled glass or metal tiles can create a stunning and eye-catching backsplash, while reclaimed wood accents add warmth and texture to a bathroom space. These materials not only look great, but they also promote sustainable design practices and reduce waste.

One of the most popular recycled materials for bathroom design is glass. Glass tiles are made from recycled glass bottles and jars, which are melted down and molded into tiles. These tiles come in a variety of colors and patterns, and they are perfect for creating a modern and eco-friendly bathroom.

Waterproof Wood and Laminates

Wood can add a natural and inviting touch to a bathroom, but it needs to be carefully chosen to withstand the humid and wet conditions. Waterproof wood finishes or laminates offer a practical and stylish solution for creating a rustic or organic feel in the bathroom, without worrying about water damage.

One of the most popular waterproof wood finishes for bathroom design is teak. Teak is a hardwood that is naturally resistant to water and moisture, making it an ideal material for bathroom floors and walls. It also has a warm and inviting look that can create a spa-like atmosphere in the bathroom.

Textured Tiles and Wall Coverings

Tactile and 3D tiles are another emerging trend in bathroom design. Textured tiles, like mosaic or subway tiles, create visual interest and depth, while 3D tiles add dimension and a sculptural quality to the walls. Other textured wall coverings, like wallpaper or wood panels, can create a cozy and layered look.

One of the most popular textured tiles for bathroom design is the hexagon tile. Hexagon tiles come in a variety of colors and patterns, and they can be arranged in a variety of ways to create a unique and eye-catching design. They are perfect for creating a modern and geometric look in the bathroom.

Overall, there are many innovative materials available for bathroom design that can transform a bathroom into a luxurious and inviting space. From engineered stone and porcelain to recycled and reclaimed materials, there is a material to suit every style and budget.

Smart Storage Solutions

A well-organized bathroom can make a world of difference in your daily routine. With the right storage solutions, you can keep all your essentials close at hand, while maintaining a clean and uncluttered look. Here are some smart storage solutions to consider:

Built-In and Hidden Storage

When it comes to small bathrooms or powder rooms, maximizing storage is important. Built-in storage solutions, like recessed shelves or cabinets, save space while keeping essentials close at hand. These options are perfect for storing toiletries, towels, and other bathroom essentials. Hidden storage solutions, such as behind-the-mirror or under-the-sink cabinets, create a clean and uncluttered look. These options are great for storing items that you don’t need to access on a daily basis, such as cleaning supplies or extra toilet paper.

Modular and Flexible Storage Systems

Flexibility is key in bathroom storage. Modular storage systems, like wire baskets or stackable drawers, can be customized to fit the space and the user’s needs. These options are perfect for storing items that you need to access frequently, such as makeup or hair styling tools. Flexible hooks, shelves, and towel bars can be moved around as needed, making the most of the available space. These options are great for storing towels and other frequently-used items.

Vertical Storage and Wall-Mounted Units

The walls in a bathroom are prime real estate for storage. Vertical storage options, like ladder shelves or wall-mounted cabinets, make use of vertical space and create a dynamic visual effect. These options are perfect for storing items that you want to display, such as decorative items or plants. Wall-mounted units, like makeup mirrors or towel warmers, save floor space while adding an element of luxury. These options are perfect for creating a spa-like atmosphere in your bathroom.

Multi-Functional Furniture and Fixtures

Multi-functional furniture and fixtures, like benches or vanity seating, can double as storage or display surfaces. These options are perfect for storing extra towels or displaying decorative items. Innovative fixtures, like combo sink/toilet units or LED mirror cabinets, also offer dual functionality and save space. These options are perfect for small bathrooms or powder rooms, where space is at a premium.

With these smart storage solutions, you can create a well-organized and functional bathroom that meets all your needs. Whether you’re looking to maximize space or create a spa-like atmosphere, there’s a storage solution out there that’s perfect for you.

Bathroom Layouts and Space Planning

When it comes to designing a bathroom, there are a variety of layouts and space planning options to consider. From open-concept designs to compact and space-saving layouts, the possibilities are endless. Here are some popular bathroom design trends to consider:

Open-Concept Bathrooms

Open-concept bathrooms are becoming more popular, blurring the lines between the bathroom and the bedroom or dressing area. Glass partitions or room dividers can create a sense of privacy while still allowing for an open and spacious feel. These layouts work particularly well in larger bathrooms with plenty of natural light.

One advantage of an open-concept bathroom is the ability to create a seamless flow between the different areas of the bedroom and bathroom. This can make getting ready in the morning a more efficient and enjoyable experience. Additionally, an open-concept bathroom can add value to a home and create a luxurious and modern feel.

Compact and Space-Saving Designs

Smaller, more compact bathroom designs are also gaining traction, especially in urban areas where space is at a premium. Space-saving fixtures, like corner sinks and compact toilets, integrate seamlessly into these smaller spaces. Multifunctional design elements, like wall-mounted vanities or built-in storage, also help to maximize space.

When designing a compact bathroom, it’s important to prioritize functionality and efficiency. Every inch of space counts, so choosing the right fixtures and storage solutions is key. Consider using light colors and reflective surfaces to create the illusion of more space, and incorporate clever design elements like recessed lighting or mirrored cabinets to add depth and dimension.

Spa-Inspired Retreats and Sanctuaries

Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces; they are becoming more like personal sanctuaries. Spa-inspired retreats, with features like steam showers, soaking tubs, and chromatherapy lighting, have become increasingly popular. Natural materials and calming color palettes create a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a long day.

When designing a spa-inspired bathroom, it’s important to create a cohesive and calming environment. Consider incorporating natural materials like stone or wood, and choose a color palette that promotes relaxation and tranquility. Lighting is also key; dimmer switches and soft, warm lighting can create a peaceful and inviting atmosphere.

Accessible and Universal Design Principles

Universal design principles are becoming more important in bathroom design, making spaces more accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Features like step-free shower entries, easy-to-use faucets, and adjustable showerheads make life easier for seniors or those with mobility issues. These accessible design elements don’t compromise on style, and can be integrated into any bathroom design.

When designing an accessible bathroom, it’s important to prioritize safety and ease of use. Consider installing grab bars and non-slip flooring, and choose fixtures and features that are easy to operate. Additionally, incorporating universal design elements like lever-style faucets and adjustable showerheads can make the bathroom more user-friendly for everyone.

Whether you’re designing a large, luxurious bathroom or a compact and functional space, there are a variety of layouts and design trends to consider. By prioritizing functionality, style, and accessibility, you can create a bathroom that meets your needs and enhances your daily routine.

Top Bathroom Fixture Trends

Bathrooms are no longer just functional spaces, they have become sanctuaries where people can relax and unwind. As such, homeowners are increasingly looking for innovative, sustainable, and stylish bathroom fixture trends that not only cater to their needs but also enhance the aesthetics of the space. Here are some of the top bathroom fixture trends for 2023:

Freestanding Tubs and Sinks

Freestanding tubs and sinks have become popular in recent years due to their sculptural and statement-making quality. These fixtures come in a variety of materials like porcelain or acrylic, and shapes from oval to rectangular to asymmetrical. They are functional and add visual interest to a space. Imagine soaking in a luxurious freestanding tub after a long day at work, surrounded by candles and soft music.

Smart Toilets and Bidets

Smart toilets and bidets are revolutionizing the traditional toilet fixture. These high-tech fixtures offer features like automatic flushing, self-cleaning, and heated seats. Bidets are becoming popular for the extra clean feeling they provide. These smart options offer a more hygienic and convenient experience than traditional fixtures. Imagine not having to worry about cleaning the toilet or running out of toilet paper!

Water-Saving Faucets and Showerheads

Water-saving fixtures have become a necessity for environmentally conscious homeowners. Low-flow showerheads and faucets reduce water usage without compromising function or style. Many water-saving fixtures are also designed to minimize clogs and mineral buildups, promoting ease of use and maintenance. Imagine saving money on your water bill while also helping the planet!

Statement Lighting and Mirrors

Lighting and mirrors are key elements in any bathroom design. Statement lighting, like chandeliers or pendant lights, add visual interest and a touch of drama to a space. Mirrors are also an essential component, and can be used to create the illusion of space or reflect light. When combined, lighting and mirrors can be used to frame focal points, like vanities or freestanding tubs. Imagine getting ready for a night out with perfect lighting and a beautiful mirror!

Natural Materials

Natural materials like wood, stone, and marble are becoming increasingly popular in bathroom design. These materials create a warm and inviting atmosphere, and add a touch of luxury to the space. Wood accents can be used to add warmth and texture, while marble and stone can be used to create a spa-like atmosphere. Imagine stepping into a bathroom that feels like a serene oasis!

Smart Storage Solutions

Storage is always a concern in bathrooms, but with smart storage solutions, homeowners can maximize their space without sacrificing style. Wall-mounted cabinets, built-in shelves, and under-sink storage are just a few examples of smart storage solutions that can be incorporated into bathroom design. Imagine having a place for everything, without cluttering up the space!

In conclusion, the top 20 bathroom trends for 2023 are innovative, sustainable, and stylish. From futuristic technology and eco-friendly materials to spa-inspired designs and smart storage solutions, there’s a trend to suit any taste. So, whether you’re starting a complete remodel or making a few updates, be sure to use these trends to inspire your design choices and create a bathroom that is both functional and luxurious.

After our boiler unexpectedly stopped working, Gasworks (Bernard) came out the same day to assess it for us. He provided us with a very competitive quite that night, then came back 2 days later to install our new boiler. He worked late into the evening as he "couldn't leave us without heating over Christmas". He did a fantastic job and left everything exactly as he found it. Bernard was extremely kind and helpful, going above and beyond just a couple of days before Christmas. We would highly recommend Gasworks to anyone!
